Sydney DeCaro, MA

Sydney is the Program Coordinator for the DCRP. She graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 2022 and graduated summa cum laude from Elon University with a B.A. in Psychology in 2020. As a master’s student in the Regulation of Emotion in Anxiety and Depression (READ) Lab at Teachers College, Sydney worked on a treatment research project evaluating Emotion Regulation Therapy (ERT) for adults experiencing COVID-19 distress. Additionally, she worked in the Anxiety and Mood Program in the Child Outpatient Psychiatric Division at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she worked on several projects including a study evaluating hope and its connection to emerging adult functioning, symptomatology, and treatment attendance with emerging adults in the clinic. After completing her undergraduate thesis on perfectionism in the academic context, Sydney completed her master’s thesis on an Emotion Regulation framework for clinical perfectionism. Sydney’s research interests include examining risk, development, and maintenance of transdiagnostic cognitive processes that are hallmarks of anxiety and depressive disorders and integrating such findings with her curiosity about perfectionism, its cross-cultural differences, and evidence-based targeted treatments. After her time at the DCRP, Sydney plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with a focus on mood and anxiety disorders in emerging adults and adults.
